Depending on the type of pollution it is necessary to equip the port with facilities allowing for the collection of waste and effluents from port users and boaters. Any port having carried out the main part of the Clean Harbours process can use it, making it easier for boaters calling in several ports to find their way around the facilities put at their disposal. Likened to an orange, the earth\u2019s available resource of fresh water is comparable to a drop of water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Water conservation is an important element in good port management: saving money and conserving a resource which is becoming increasingly rare in certain regions, particularly during summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A system of water meters throughout the distribution network allows for fine resource management and rapid detection of any irregularities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The port\u2019s water distribution system should be equipped with valves allowing for the isolation of one section without disrupting all users on the network.
