{"id":3442,"date":"2020-03-16T11:24:27","date_gmt":"2020-03-16T10:24:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ports-propres.org\/?page_id=3442"},"modified":"2024-10-30T16:37:01","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T15:37:01","slug":"clean-harbour-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ports-propres.org\/en\/clean-harbour-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"Why &#8220;Clean Harbours&#8221; ?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The \u201cClean Harbours\u201d certification is a sign of environmental excellence in terms of environmental management of marinas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It reflects a strong\ndesire on the part of the marina managers to make concrete commitments to fight\nfor the preservation of aquatic environments and the sustainable development of\ncoastal and marine activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The process was\ninitially started upon the observation that several thousand tons of toxic\nwaste resulting from port activity (batteries, accumulators and accumulating\nbatteries, waste oil, solvents, paint, paint cans, resins) as well as\nwastewater from careening, sewage and rainwater) were discharged into ports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Clean Harbours\napproach in 5 steps, prior to obtaining certification, is THE solution for\nensuring the appropriate management of these areas, using methods and tools\nthat meet these environmental challenges. It enables the managers of marinas to\ncontrol chronic and accidental pollution, and toxic waste from the activity of\nthe port, in accordance with the regulations in force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commitment of the\nmanagers of marinas in the Clean Harbours approach is voluntary. They are\nconvinced of the need to be exemplary in terms of environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order for their commitments to be acknowledged, the marinas that have used the Clean Harbours approach have their practices certified by an independent third party, such as AFNOR Certification. On the day of the audit leading to the certification, the auditor will check whether the port responds favorably to the criteria set out in standard ISO 18725\u00a0: \u201cClean Harbours\u201d .\u00a0This guarantees a total independence in decision making and a real impartiality in the award of the certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2018, the harbours certified as Clean Harbours have been able to climb an additional step by acting in favour of biodiversity and obtain the certification &#8220;Ports Propres actif en biodiversit\u00e9&#8221; ( active in biodiversity ).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Having started out as a French standard in 2008, Clean Harbours certification was adopted at European level in 2012, and has been an international standard since June 2024:<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>\u201cISO 18725 Clean Harbours\u201d<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><em>the only international environmental certification specifically for marinas!<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0This standard incorporates\u00a0<strong>the Certification \u201cPort Propres actifs en biodiversit\u00e9\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clean Harbours is the\ninseparable foundation of the ports of tomorrow, sustainable and exemplary\nports <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The \u201cClean Harbours\u201d certification is a sign of environmental excellence in terms of environmental management of marinas.
